Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has directed the Ministry of Water Resources to ensure timely completion of all the ongoing development projects.

Presiding over a meeting to discuss the affairs of WAPDA in Islamabad, he directed to control the cost escalation in these projects without compromising their quality.

Chairman WAPDA, Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (Retd) told the meeting that work on Kacchi Canal having capacity of irrigating 72,000 acres of land in Dera Bugti has been completed and would be inaugurated very soon.

He said that first unit of 1,410 MW Tarbela IV Extension would be ready for power generation by February 2018, second by April, 2018 and the third by May, 2018.



The caravan of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will resume its journey towards Lahore from Gujranwala today. 

Earlier, the rally received tumultuous response on its arrival at Gujranwala.

Addressing a big public gathering in Gujranwala, Nawaz Sharif said it is an irony that no elected Prime Minister was allowed to complete his constitutional term.

He said not a shred of corruption has been proved against him. 

Nawaz Sharif said no one can oust him from people's hearts.

The former Prime Minister said his love for the people of Pakistan is unprecedented.



Minister of State for Ports and Shipping Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal has said the government will keep on implementing the vision of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for development and prosperity of the country.

In a statement, he said the mammoth rally of the former premier has proved that the popularity graph of Nawaz Sharif is increasing significantly.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and his wife visited family of Major Ali Salman in Lahore, who embraced martyrdom during an intelligence based operation in Dir on Wednesday.

According to ISPR, the army chief acknowledged supreme sacrifice of Major Ali Salman and said that he has made the country proud.

Later, General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited family of Brigadier Muhammad Hasnain, who lost his life enroute to operational area in South Waziristan in a road accident.



The security forces have seized huge cache of arms and ammunition during intelligence based operations in North Waziristan Agency.

According to an ISPR, the operations were carried out in Ghulam Khan, Lakki Midan, Lppi, Spalga, Khareseen and Roucha areas of the Agency.

Huge cache of arms and ammunition, including heavy machine guns, improvised explosive devices, rockets and ammunition were recovered.



Sindh Rangers have arrested six accused involved in different crimes during raids in various parts of Karachi.

According to Rangers' spokesman, the raids were conducted in Zaman town, Sohrab Goth and Lyari areas.

Huge quantity of arms and ammunition, snatched valuables and narcotics were also recovered from them.



Azadi train will begin its countrywide journey from Margalla Station, Islamabad on Saturday at 12 30 pm.

According to the schedule by Railways Ministry, the train will reach Peshawar Cantt at 4 30 in the evening.

The train will leave for Rawalpindi from Peshawar Cantt tomorrow and reach Rawalpindi in the afternoon, where it will stay for the whole day on Monday.

The Special Azadi Train will leave for Lahore at 10 00 pm on 15th of this month.

Train will have a two day stopover in Lahore and will leave for Karachi.

The journey will come to an end at Karachi Cantt on 25th of this month.



In Occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown will be observed today against Indian plans to abrogate Article 35-A of Indian constitution to convert Muslim majority of the territory into minority.

Call for the strike has been given by the joint resistance leadership, comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

The strike is also aimed at registering protest against the arrest of Hurriyat leaders by Delhi-based National Investigation Agency and Enforcement Directorate.

The Punjab government is launching a project worth one point two billion rupees to provide latest field machinery to farmers on affordable price.

A spokesperson of Punjab Agriculture Information Department told our Multan correspondent that the project would be initiated in 36 districts of the province with collaboration of the Bank of Punjab.

He said initially, the government is establishing one centre each in 36 districts which would be expanded to tehsils level.

The spokesperson said the initiative will help the farmers to attain hi tech machinery for progressive farming.
