Over 4m Afghan refugees returned home: NA told

The National Assembly was informed on Monday that 1.38 million registered and seven hundred thousand unregistered Afghan Refugees are residing in Pakistan.

Replying to a query during Question Hour, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch informed the House that repatriation of registered Afghan refugees is guided by the principle of voluntarism according to Tripartite Agreement signed by governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan and UNHCR.

He said under the programme, 4.3 million Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan since 2002, which has been marked as the largest voluntary repatriation programme in UNHCR's history.

Answering a question, Parliamentary Secretary for Commerce Shaza Fatima informed the House that government has taken a number of steps to promote exports of fruits.

Answering another question, Shaza Fatima informed the House that Pakistan's exports to European Union increased by 38 percent in 2016 against 2013 after the grant of GSP Plus status to Pakistan.
