United Nations has voiced deep concern about the situation in Bolivia following weeks of unrest that culminated in the resignation of President Evo Morales.

A spokesman of the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric said that Antonio Guterres has urged all concerned in Bolivia to refrain from violence, reduce tension and exercise maximum restraint.

He called on all parties to abide by international law.

The secretary-general also appealed all sides to commit to achieve a peaceful resolution of the current crisis and to ensure a transparent and credible re-run of the elections.

Earlier, the international monitors called for the election result to be annulled, saying they had found clear manipulations in polls.
