In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has strongly condemned the killing of a Sikh youth, Simranjeet Singh, by unknown gunmen in Tral area of Pulwama district last week.
The JRL comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Sikh community always stood with the Muslims in the ongoing resistance movement even when Indian agencies attempted to give it a sectarian angle. “Even after the massacre of Sikhs in Chhattisinghpora, the people of the community showed farsightedness and patience to defeat the communal forces,” they added.
The leaders said, “Protection of minorities, whether they are Sikhs, Hindus or Buddhists is our political and moral responsibility. We have been taught about protecting them in our religion.”
The JRL said a high-level delegation will visit the family of slain Sikh youth, Simranjeet Singh in Tral to express solidarity and convey that they are safe in Kashmir. “The incident of killing of Simranjeet Singh is reprehensible in every way and that the aim of such incidents is to disturb the communal harmony in the territory,” it maintained.
The JRL also condemned the rape of a minor girl in Ramsoo area of Ramban in Jammu region and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to book. It said that soon a delegation of JRL would visit the area to express solidarity with the family of the victim girl.
