The UN Security Council has agreed to immediately begin work on a new draft of sanctions on North Korea after its fifth nuclear test.

During a closed door meeting at UN Headquarters, the Council strongly condemned the latest nuclear test by North Korea .

The meeting agreed to begin drafting a new resolution under article 41 of the UN charter, which provides for the sanctions .

Meanwhile, Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said the United States and its regional allies are well protected against any threat from North Korea 's missiles.

He said in Washington that we recognize North Korea 's missiles as a real threat and always ensure to outpace it.

He said we have built a defensive architecture and have a range of missile-defense technologies, including the Aegis Combat System, Patriot missiles and sophisticated radars.
