NAWAZ

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said the ultimate aim of the government's endeavours in energy, economy and infrastructure sectors is to raise living standard of people.

He was talking to Leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafar-ul-Haq in Islamabad today.   

The Prime Minister said the government is making all out efforts to resolve power and gas shortage in the country.     

He said the government has invested billions of rupees in the energy sector and through completion of the ongoing energy projects, it would provide cheap electricity to consumers.

The prime minister hoped that the completion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would not only prove to be a game changer for the country but also a fate changer for the whole region.        

He said the country's law and order situation has significantly improved and its impact is already being grasped by the business community.     

Prime Minister Sharif said the confidence of the international financial markets in Pakistan's positive economic outlook is a proof of successful march towards attaining long term economic stability.        

He said the government is pursuing its development agenda simultaneously for creation of economic activities and generation of employment opportunities leading to reduction in poverty.

DAR-MEETING

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said the government has initiated a number of measures to boost the country's exports.

He was chairing a meeting of the Monetary and Fiscal Policies Coordination Board in Islamabad today.

Ishaq Dar said there is no load-shedding for industrial sector.

The Finance Minister said the Board of Investment should monitor flow of foreign direct investment regularly.   

Earlier, briefing the meeting on the economic situation, Secretary Finance Waqar Masood said economic indicators are moving in the right direction.

He said the growth momentum in large scale manufacturing is continuing, mainly supported by better energy supplies, lower commodity prices and accommodative polices.   

The meeting also showed concern on the falling exports.

CAREC

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has invited Finance Ministers of Central Asian and Regional countries to attend the15th Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Ministerial Conference. 

The conference is scheduled to be held in Islamabad on 25th-26th of next month.    

The theme of this year`s Conference is “Linking connectivity with economic transformation in CAREC”. An Energy Investment Forum has also been planned on the 24th of next month.

The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation brings together ten regional countries, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kazakhastan, Krygyzistan, Turkemenistan, Uzbekitan, Mongolia, China and Pakistan for economic and development cooperation.

PETROLEUM

The government has started the process of awarding thirty-two new oil and gas exploration blocks to exploration companies.   

According to official sources, the Ministry of Petroleum and natural resources is encouraging investment in oil and gas exploration sector.       

Exploration activities have picked up momentum in recent times and some important discoveries are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in near future.

A total of eighty-two discoveries of oil and gas have been made over the last three years.

The production has already stated from forty-five out of the total discoveries while necessary work is in progress over thirty-seven discoveries.

HAJJ

Hajj rituals began in Makkah today.

Millions of Aazmeen-e-Hajj, including one hundred and sixty thousand Pakistanis, is gathering in the tent city of Mina today from where they will proceed to Arafaat by buses and trains tomorrow.

In Arafaat, Hajj sermon will be delivered at Masjid-e-Nimra.

After the Hajj sermon, the faithful will offer Zohar and Asar prayers in Arafaat together and proceed to Muzdalifah, where they will spend the night in open.

SPECIAL-TRAINS

Pakistan Railways started to run eight Special trains on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha  from today.

Special discount of twenty-five percent in fares has also been announced for first two days of Eid.

Minister for Railways Khawja Saad Rafique has directed for strict monitoring to ensure timely departure and arrival of special trains.

The special trains will be run till 17th of this month.

CEC-GB

Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit Baltistan Syed Tahir Ali Shah has expressed his satisfaction over arrangements for conducting by-election in Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, GBLA-6 Hunza-III.

Voting is in progress in the constituency till five p.m.

He stated this during visit to various polling stations, where he witnessed arrangements for the polling.

The Chief Election Commissioner praised the role of civil administration and security forces for strict measures to hold free, fair and transparent election.

CM-CITY

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Safe City Project is an important step towards achieving the goal of a peaceful and secured province.

He stated this while presiding over high level meeting in Lahore today to review the progress on the implementation of Safe City Project in Punjab.

He said the Dolphin Force and Police Response Unit will also be part of Safe City Project to protect lives and properties of people.                 

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan was also present.

ANNIVERSARY

The 68th death anniversary of the Father of Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah will be observed with due solemnity and reverence tomorrow.

Different organisations and educational institutions have planned special seminars and ceremonies to pay rich tribute to the Quaid for rendering valuable services for the Muslims of the sub-continent. 

On this occasion, a large number of people will visit his mausoleum in Karachi to offer fateha and lay floral wreaths.

Quaid-e-Azam passed away on this day in 1948 shortly after achieving independence for the nation.

REMAND

National Accountability Court in Karachi has sent Additional Director Karachi Development Authority Nasir Shaikh to jail on judicial remand in the corruption case till 27th of this month.  

The court also ordered NAB to file reference against him.

Nasir Shaikh is also involved in china-cutting of 1200 plots of Line area development project.

ARREST

Three suspected persons were arrested during a search operation in Bana Manri area of Peshawar today.     

Arms and ammunition, including twenty-five pistols, eight rifles and two hundred rounds, were recovered from them.

KASHMIR-DEMO

In occupied Kashmir, two more youth have been martyred and dozens others have been injured due to brutal actions of Indian forces on protesters in different areas of the Kashmir Valley today.

Thousands of people took to the streets in Srinagar, Badgam, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Baramulla, Islamabad, and other areas staging forceful demonstrations against the killing spree unleashed by Indian forces in the Valley.

IRAN

Iran has begun construction of its 2nd nuclear power plant with the help of Russian.

The project will cost ten billion dollars and produce 1057-megawatt electricity.

OBAMA

US President Barack Obama has described North Korea's nuclear test as a grave threat to regional security and international peace and stability.

In a statement, he said this provocative and destabilizing action of North Korea is poised to isolate and impoverish its people through its relentless pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missile capabilities.                         

FRANCE-GERMANY

France and Germany are preparing joint strategy to evolve a more active and more useful European defence policy.

In an interview, French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said the objective of the joint strategy is to boost European Security and defence mechanism.
