Pakistan and Russia have expressed the desire to transform the current cordial political relations into a long-term partnership in diverse fields.
The resolve was expressed during meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the side line SCO Summit in Astana.
The two leaders reaffirmed their desire to further enhance bilateral relations.
They took a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and agreed that there is a healthy growth in relations between two countries.
Both sides noted that high-level interactions and cordial political relations between the two countries have set the stage for translating political goodwill into a substantive economic partnership.
They also agreed to work on concrete proposals for the next session of Pakistan-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation which will take place in Moscow in December this year.
It was also agreed to fast-track the implementation of North-South Gas Pipeline, the agreement for which was signed in October 2015 between two sides.
The two sides also reviewed defence relations during recent years.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has now reached Lahore, after concluding his two-day official visit to Kazakhstan.
Talking to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Astan, The Prime Minister said that Pakistan remains committed to peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Nawaz Sharif said that terrorism remains a common threat to both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He said Pakistan and its forces are valiantly fighting the menace of terrorism and the country has rendered immense human and economic sacrifice in the struggle in recent years.
Nawaz Sharif said close cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan is important for eliminating the scourge of terrorism from our region.
The two leaders agreed to use Quadrilateral Coordination Group mechanism as well as bilateral channels to undertake specific actions against terror groups.
They also agreed to use Quadrilateral Coordination Group to promote peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also visited Pakistan's stall at international specialized exhibition 'Expo 2017' in Astana.
He took keen interest in the items displayed at the stall and was briefed about the traditional arts items and wind and solar technologies gadgets.
Expo-2017 will continue upto the 10th of September. It is dedicated to development of alternative energy sources, green technologies and preservation of ecology system.
Over one hundred countries and twenty-two international organizations are participating in the exhibition.
Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir, Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal and Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, also accompanied the Prime Minister.
Shanghai Cooperation Organization was expanded for the first time at the two-day summit in Astana with the inclusion of Pakistan and India.
According to an article published in Daily China today, the inclusion of the two major regional countries in the SCO demonstrates the organization's growing appeal.
The article said the inclusion of these countries will greatly boost SCO's role in promoting regional stability and bringing prosperity to the whole region.
The SCO could also serve as a platform to promote the common need for economic and trade development, especially under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative framework.
It is further said that the organization is expected to more comprehensively promote regional unity in the quest for a more secure and prosperous future.
Acting President Mian Raza Rabbani says the Army and Law Enforcement Agencies are fighting against terrorism for its complete elimination form the country.
He was addressing the Leisure Leagues' final player ceremony in Karachi today.
Raza Rabbani said that Pakistan is faced with the menace of terrorism and sectarianism but of our security forces are effectively handling the issue.

Talking to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Irrigation Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao in Islamabad, the Finance Minister said that the federal government has always been keen to work with all provincial governments to enhance the welfare of the general public.
They discussed matters relating to the financing of different projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including the Pehur High Level Canal Extension Project, for which a loan agreement has been signed with Asian Development Bank.

Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar says jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's National Health Programme is being extended to eight districts of AJK.
In a statement, she said that around ninety-five thousand families are being facilitated under the programme in Muzaffarabad and Kotli districts.
The state minister said fifteen thousand women have been given treatment under the Prime Minister's Health Program.
She said that the programme specially focuses on the health and treatment of women. With help of this program treatment of fifteen thousand women has been carried out.
Saira Afzal Tarar said forty heart operations have also been conducted during three months in Bajaur and Khyber Agencies of FATA under the program.

One civilian was martyred due to unprovoked firing by Indian forces at Line of Control in Rawalakot Sector today.
Police sources told Radio Pakistan that Indian army resorted to unprovoked firing from across the LoC that seriously injured Muhammad Shabir of Abbas Pur. Who was shifted to the nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries this afternoon.
According to ISPR, Pakistani troops befittingly responded and silenced the Indian guns.

Punjab Cabinet at its meeting with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the chair in Lahore today approved privatization of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Power Private Limited.
The Chief Minister said investors have shown keen interest in the privatization of this project.
The Chief Minister directed for formation of Standing Committee of the Cabinet to monitor privatization process of the company.
The provincial Cabinet also approved establishment of "Punjab Thermal Power Company Limited" for new twelve hundred megawatt gas power Project.

Sindh Assembly continued debate on the new budget today..

Taking part in the debate, Khairunnissa Mughal, Rehana Leghari and other described the budget as people-friendly.
They lauded the fifteen percent increase in the salaries and pension.
Members belonging to opposition benches criticised the government for not carrying out development work inspite of earmarking huge funds.
Twenty students previously belonging to a banned organization passed out today at the Rehabilitation Centre of Pakistan Rangers Sindh in Karachi.
According to a Rangers spokesman, nine of the twenty passed out students were trained in terrorism in Afghanistan.
He said those rehabilitated in the rehabilitation center had not criminal record. Therefore, they were passed out after nine months of rehabilitations.
The federal government has decided to establish regional passport office at Miran Shah, North Waziristan Agency.
According to official sources, a team of Immigration and Passport Department would visit Miran Shah next week to select a suitable place for the office.
The opening of regional passport office will facilitate the tribesmen in getting passport at their doorstep.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Hafiz Hafiz-ur-Rehman has appreciated PML-N government for taking special measures for promotion of sports and tourism in Gilgit Baltistan.
In a statement today, he said under Prime Minister's Youth Loan Schemes, six hundred thousand rupees each loan will be provided to five hundred Youth to promote tourism in the area.

An understanding to this effect came during a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Moscow today.
Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was ready to act with consent and interest of the parties concerned to help resolve the diplomatic row through talks.
