MEETING

A US delegation held a meeting with adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad today.

They discussed bilateral relations, regional situation and impact of recent drone attack in Balochistan.

Advisor to US president Peter Lavoy led the delegation which comprised among others, US special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Olson.

Pakistan's foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry and US Ambassador to Pakistan, David Hale were also present at the meeting.

MALEEHA

Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations in New York, Maleeha Lodhi has urged international community to take notice of millions of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan for the last four decades.

In a statement, she said the issue should be discussed in current summit of the United Nations regarding refugees.

Maliha Lodhi said arrival of refugees in Pakistan has created socio-political problems in the country.

She stressed the need for enhancing aid of the countries who host the migrants.

SENATE-DISCUSSION

Senate resumed discussion on budget proposals today.

Taking part in the debate, Karim Ahmad Khawaja said that it is the first time in the country's history that the agriculture sector witnessed negative growth during the current fiscal year.

Muzaffar Hussain Shah said the Upper House should protect the interests of the provinces.

He said it should examine whether the allocations made under the PSDP are in accordance with the criterion laid down in the NFC.

He said that agriculture is the backbone of the economy and reduction in the cotton crop by 30 percent last year amounts to failure of the government to address the problems of the farmers.

Sardar Ayaz said that drug addicts are increasing with the passage of time but there is no rehabilitation centres for them even in the capital territory.

Similarly, she said that the budget carries no relief measures for the disabled people and the women folk.

She proposed that additional taxes imposed on dairy products should be withdrawn.

CALL ATTENTION

Earlier responding to a calling attention notice moved by Taj Haider and others, Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid said that three more LNG Terminals are being constructed while one have been completed at Port Qasim.

He clarified that no LNG terminal is being constructed on Bundel Island in Karachi.

The Chair referred the matter of the construction of LNG terminals to the Standing Committee on Climate Change.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is recuperating fast and he is thankful to the people of Pakistan who prayed for his early recovery.

In a statement issued from Lahore after his return from London this morning, he said that Prime Minister will come back to Pakistan very soon.

The meeting of the committee to discuss Terms of References on Panama Papers is underway in Islamabad.

Senator Ishaq Dar, Khawja Saad Rafiq, Ilyas Balor, Zahid Hamid, Anusha Rehman, Hasil Bizanjo, Akram Durrani, Aitzaz Ahsan,Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shabzada Tariq Ullah and Tariq Bashir Cheema are participating in the meeting of committee.

ARREST:

Ninety suspects were arrested in Hayatabad, Peshawar this morning.

Those arrested include twenty five Afghan nationals for living in the city without traveling documents.

Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the suspects.

CONDOLENCE

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has condoled the demise of senior journalist Khalid Mehmood's mother.

He expressed greif and prayed for departed soul.

In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, has said that a Delhi-based Hindu group backed by RSS is attempting to vitiate the communal harmony of the territory.  

In  a statement in Srinagar, he said that the proposed yatra was an attempt to disturb the environment of occupied Kashmir and divert the attention of the people from the serious situations in the territory.

 He termed as ridiculous and silly a proposal by the Hindu group, Abhinav Gupta Shashaderi Samiti, to start pilgrimage to the cave on the pattern of Amarnath Yatra.

Syed Ali Gilani appealed to the people to remain cautious in this regard and resist this cultural aggression. He further said that the Kashmiris were not against the Indian people or their religion.                       

ALI-JILANI

Pakistan's ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani attended the funeral of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali held in the state of Kentucky.

Ambassador Jilani paid rich tribute to the great Muslim boxer on behalf of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and offered prayers for the departed soul and his family.

He also laid a floral wreath to honor Muhammad Ali boxer.
