JIT on Panama papers presents its final report to the Supreme Court and government rejects it
PML-N rejects the Joint Investigation Team's report submitted to the Supreme Court describing it as trash
The joint investigation team formed by the Supreme Court to probe into matters relating to Panama Papers, submitted its final report before a three-member Bench of the Apex Court. The implementation bench, constituted as a consequence of a judgment of the Larger Bench, is headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal. The Bench says the process of mudslinging must also stop.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad this evening, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal says the report is a compilation of allegations hurled by the PTI. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Law Barrister Zafarullah says four out of six JIT members were totally ignorant of the legal process of investigation. Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif says the PML-N will expose all the lacunas, shortcomings, and contradictions in the JIT report before the Supreme Court. Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says findings of the JIT report are based on speculations and suppositions instead of solid facts.
PM Nawaz Sharif presented himself and his family for accountability while Imran Khan on the other hand avoiding legal forums for accountability
PTI is not ready to answer the allegations leveled against the party in foreign funding case. PTI also fails to submit reply in Supreme Court of Pakistan. Even Election Commission of Pakistan has given last chance to party to submit reply, but the party has miserably failed to reply.
Analysts on Telephone:
Justice (Retd) Iftikhar Ahmed Cheema (Leader, PML-N)
It is a unique example of its type that a sitting Prime Minister and his family appeared before a Joint Investigation team being headed by his own subordinates. Even though there was no name of PM in Panama leaks yet Prime Minister presented himself for accountability. The role of some media houses and political leaders should be condemned. Imran Khan has been exposed in front of the nation. On one hand he has been criticizing the government and Sharif’s family while on the other hand he himself is hesitant to appear before the election commission and other investigation agencies.
Mehmood Bashir Virk (Leader, PML-N)
Prime Minister from the day one was sure that he and his family were never involved in any sort of corruption yet he appeared before the JIT just to ensure the supremacy of law and constitution. It is a conspiracy against the Prime Minister and his family and just an effort to divert the attention of the government from its agenda of economic development. But Prime Minister remained determined and continued his efforts to make Pakistan a developed country. He can never sit idle and will always continue to work for the welfare of the people of the country.
