Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) chairman Dr Umar Saif will deliver a talk on technology-based governance reforms, at a day-long conference on Pakistan's public-sector institutions at Wilson Center, Washington DC, on Wednesday.

His address is titled ‘How Technology is Transforming Governance in Pakistan’. He will highlight technology-based initiatives to improve service delivery and enhance accountability of government officials in Education, Health and other departments.

The conference will examine various governance reform efforts aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s civilian institutions. “Pakistan’s public sector institutions suffer from many shortcomings, complicating efforts to craft and implement sustainable public policies and to resolve the country’s broader development and stability challenges. At the same time, encouraging reforms and success stories are in place that highlight possibilities for turning institutions around for the better, says the web page of the Wilson Center. The event will be attended by academics, US-based policy think-tank representatives, government officials and legislators.

The Wilson Center was chartered by the US Congress as an official memorial to President Woodrow Wilson. It’s mission is to serve as “a non-partisan policy forum for tackling global issues through independent research and open dialogue to inform actionable ideas for US Congress”.
