Govt-Taliban dialogue to be held within constitutional parameters: Zafarul Haq

Leader of the House in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq says the government will hold dialogue with outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban within constitutional parameters based on Islamic principles.
Responding to a point of order in the House‚ he said the 1973 constitution was prepared and signed by top religious scholars‚ who were also the Members of the Parliament.
He said they included Maulana Mufti Mahmood‚ Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani‚ Maulana Abdul Haq and Maulana Abdul Sattar Niazi.
Raja Zafarul Haq said these religious dignitaries and distinguished Parliamentarians had taken oath and run the matters of the country under the constitution.
The Leader of the House said only one member of the Taliban committee has objected to the constitution‚ but it was personal stance. He said it would not affect the dialogue process.
Two bills introduced in the Senate on Monday.
The first bill “The Constitution (Amendment) Bill‚ 2014” was moved by Haji Muhammad Adeel. It provides for amending the constitution.
The second bill “The Privatization Commission (Amendment) Bill 2014” was moved by Syeda Sughra Imam. It calls for amending the Privatization Commission Ordinance‚ 2000.
Later‚ the House resumed debate on a motion moved by Raza Rabbani on political and law and order situation with particular reference to recent terrorist activities in the country.
The House will now meet at 10:30 am tomorrow (Tuesday).
