World Mental Health Day observed

World Mental Health Day was observed on Thursday to raise awareness about mental health issues and mobilize efforts in support of mental health.

The theme selected for this year's Day is "Suicide prevention".

World Health Organization says efforts will be made to raise awareness about the scale of suicide around the world and the role that each of us can play to help prevent it.

President Dr Arif Alvi says the incumbent government is committed to provide basic health facilities to all citizens.

In a video message on World Mental Health Day, the President said depression affects lifestyle of people which creates hurdles in development of society.

Dr Arif Alvi said the purpose of observing this day is to disseminate awareness regarding prevention of depression.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar says providing medical facilities and rehabilitation of people suffering from mental illnesses is among top priorities of government.

In his message on World Mental Health Day, he said healthy life is directly associated with healthy brain.

Punjab Minister for Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid says the incumbent government is taking measures for easement of people in health sector.

Addressing a ceremony in connection with International Mental Health Day in Lahore today, she said on this Mental Health Day we should make a commitment to continue efforts for treatment and rehabilitation of mental health patients.

She directed Principal of the Institute of Mental Health Lahore to establish helpline for convenience of mentally ill patients within a week.

Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology organized an awareness walk today at the New Campus in order to mark World Mental Health Day in Lahore today.

Vice Chancellor PU Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed, Director CCP Dr Saima Dawood, faculty members and a number of students participated in the walk.

The participants were holding banners and posters inscribed with mental health awareness information.
