PRESIDENT

President Mamnoon Hussain arrived in Asatana this afternoon to attend Organization of Islamic Cooperation's summit on science and technology.

The two-day summit will begin at the Kazakh capital tomorrow.

The summit is the first of its kind as it specializes on issues related to health, education, research, space exploration, climate change and other vital issues for development.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi visited Mushaf Airbase Sargodha today.

He was briefed about operational preparedness of Pakistan Air Force and its various other contributions, especially in the area of disaster management, relief operations, education and health.

The Prime Minister appreciated the critical role Air Force has been playing towards guarding aerial frontiers of the country and fighting the menace of terrorism.

ISPR

The security forces conducted search operations in Autto Khel area of Mohmand Agency and Wari Tehsil of Upper Dir, recovering a huge quantity of arms and ammunition.         

According to ISPR, these include heavy machine guns, motors, rocket launchers, grenades, explosives and communication equipment.

EXERCISE

Pakistan Air Force has dispatched JF-17 Thunder fighter jets and early warning aircraft to join Pak-China air forces joint ongoing training exercise 'Shaheen VI.' 

According to the spokesman for People's Liberation Army Air Force Shen Jinke, Chinese J-11 fighters, JH-7 fighter-bombers, KJ-200 AWACS aircraft and ground forces are taking part in the exercise.

The air forces of China and Pakistan began joint training exercises in China on Thursday, which will continue till 27th of this month.

The "Shaheen" joint training was launched by the Chinese and Pakistani air forces in March 2011.

SHAHBAZ

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif says electricity load shedding has largely been overcome as a result of the projects implemented by the present government.

Talking to newsmen in London today, he regretted that the previous governments did not pay attention to this critical issue.

The Chief Minister said all segments of the society need to contribute for changing destiny of the nation.

HAFEEZ

Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur Rehman says the government has initiated development projects in all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan under PML-N's development agenda.

In an interview, he said work on Gilgit-Skardu road is underway, and construction of bridges in the way will be completed this year.

DENGUE

Three hundred and forty fresh cases of dengue fever have been reported in different localities of Peshawar.

According to the latest report of Dengue Response Unit Peshawar, one hundred and sixty eight of them have been admitted in hospitals for treatment while the remaining discharged after giving them initial treatment.

At present, there are four hundred and seventy two patients being treated in hospitals.

The Higher Education Commission will establish twenty new research universities under Vision 2025 to produce skilled human resource for catering to the new trends of development.

According to official sources, the special focus on research at these universities will help ehance competencies of the prevailing and emerging disciplines of specialized studies to spur rapid development in the country.

MOSQUE

Saudi government is implementing a big project to expand Masjid-e-Nabvi to ensure maximum facilities to pilgrims.

Radio Pakistan correspondent Zahid Hameed reports from Madina that the expansion project includes construction of new minarets and extension in eastern part of the mosque on an area of one hundred thousand square meters.

Installation of mobile and fixed glass domes that allow natural ventilation and lighting are also part of the project.

The expansion project is being implemented in three phases.

AJK President Sardar Masood Khan says India’s negative propaganda badly failed when China announced a strong position on supporting Pakistan in counter-terrorism drive in the changing regional and global scenario.

In a statement in Islamabad, he said Beijing acknowledges sacrifices of Pakistan in the war against terror and no one can deny the fact.

Sardar Masood said India is applying all tactics to suppress political struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self determination but it will never succeed in its nefarious designs.                                                   

KASHMIR

In occupied Kashmir, puppet authorities have detained senior resistance leaders to prevent march to the headquarters of India’s National Investigation Agency in Delhi. 

The joint resistance leaders comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had announced to court arrest at NIA headquarters in protest against its cruel policies regarding the people of Kashmir.

Indian police arrested Muhammad Yasin Malik around midnight, yesterday, from his residence in Srinagar and shifted him to some unknown destination while Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were already under house detention.

ROHINGYA

The U.N. refugee agency says the number of Rohingya refugees who have fled Myanmar since Aug. 25 is now estimated at roughly 290,000.

UNHCR spokeswoman Vivian Tan said the number of people arriving continues to grow.

The U.N. has asked Bangladesh authorities to make more land available so they can build new relief camps.

All administrative and security measures are being finalized to successfully organize T-20 cricket series between Pakistan XI and World XI, at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The matches are to be held on 12th, 13th and 15th of this month.

Roads on the route from teams' hotel to the stadium have been carpeted a new, while arrangements are in progress to ensure sufficient lighting along the whole route.

The concerned bank branches are open today till 5 pm for the sale of tickets for the matches.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Eleven players are busy in practicing at the National Cricket Academy in the day while they will continue their night practice inside stadium under flood lights.

WEIGHTLIFTING

Pakistani wrestler Nooh Datagir Butt won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Youth Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championships at Gold Coast City, Australia.   

According to Honorary Secretary, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, Amjid Amin Butt,  Nooh (+105kg) also clinched a silver medal in the championship.

He said till now Pakistan has won four medals in the championship.
