Govt increases budget allocation for BISP to Rs121b for welfare of the destitute: PM
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stresses need for enhancing transparency, operational efficiency of BISP program.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says the government is committed towards poverty alleviation and enabling poor earn their livelihood.
He expressed these views during a briefing about the performance of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in Islamabad.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi appreciated the progress made by BISP during the last four years.
However, he stressed the need for enhancing transparency and operational efficiency of the program.
Chairperson BISP said the programme had resulted in poverty reduction by 7% and enrollment of children of BISP beneficiaries in primary schools increased by 10%.
Marvi Memon apprised the Prime Minister that the budget allocation for BISP has been increased to 121 billion rupees.
She said quarterly stipend has been enhanced from 3000 rupees per quarter in 2013 to 4834 rupees per quarter.
She said over 354,847 BISP households have been enrolled in Prime Minister's National Health Program.
