SCO

Pakistan was formally admitted as a full member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the 17th Meeting of the Heads of State Council of SCO in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

 

All the heads of the members of SCO, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated Prime minister Nawaz Sharif on this historic occasion.

 

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif along with his delegation represented Pakistan at the summit. 

 

Pakistan has been an Observer with SCO since 2005.

In his address at the SCO Heads of State Council Summit, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan, as full member of SCO, will strive further to achieve the collective objectives of the organization for regional cooperation, connectivity and economic prosperity.

 

He said Pakistan pursues a policy of peaceful neighbourhood and stresses upon promotion of peace and harmony for the future generations.

 

Congratulating India on the full member status of the SCO along with Pakistan, the Prime Minister said it is a historic day for Pakistan and the SCO members as well.

 

                     

 

NAWAZ-PUTIN

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of SCO summit in Astana today.

   

Matters pertaining to bilateral interest particularly cooperation in diverse fields came under discussion during the meeting.

 

                        

 

NAWAZ-GHANI

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Astana.

 

Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz was also present on the occasion.

Pakistan as an important member of the international community is playing an active role in the United Nations.

 

This was stated by United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres while talking to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

 

He congratulated Pakistan for a successful SCO membership and expressed hoped that the country will play an effective role as a member of the SCO family.

The Prime Minister visited Astana International Expo 2017.

   

One hundred and fifteen countries, including Pakistan, are participating in the expo.

   

                   

 

CDWP

The Central Development Working  Party has approved seven development projects worth over sixty-one billion rupees.

 

The approval was given at a meeting of CDWP in Islamabad today with Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal in the chair.

 

These projects are in transport, communication, water resources, information technology, mass media, human resources, and higher education sectors.

 

           

 

DAR-MARRIYUM

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb called on the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad today.

 

During the meeting, financial matters and budgetary proposals pertaining to the Ministry of Information were discussed.

 

Speaking on the occasion, she said that entertainment industry is a major contributor to GDP and the Ministry of Information  is working on a policy to revive and strengthen Pakistan's film  industry to promote national culture, tourism and literature.

 

The Finance Minister said that the government recognizes the importance of promoting Pakistan's arts, culture and national heritage.

Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid says a series of initiatives have been taken to overcome the issue of Climate Change.

          

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Sherry Rehman in Senate today, he said the federal government is fully supporting all the four provinces in the execution of Green Pakistan Programme.

Taking floor at the outset of the proceedings of the National Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah raised the issue of maltreatment meted out to Shaikh Rashid Ahmad outside the Parliament House yesterday.    

 

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Interior Balighur Rehman said the person involved in the incident has been arrested and FIR registered against him in Secretariat Police Station.

 

Talking about Joint Investigation Team probing the Panama Papers case, he said PML-N believes in supremacy of law and the Prime Minister has presented his family for accountability.

FIA has formally requested Interpol to issue red warrants of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain.

   

According to official sources, all legal formalities have been fulfilled in view of Interpol's rules and procedure.

The Prime Minister's son Hussain Nawaz says he has not committed anything wrong to be proved against him in the Joint Investigation Team.

   

He was talking to newsmen in Islamabad this afternoon after appearing before the JIT.

   

Hussain Nawaz said a political party is behind the baseless allegations against the Prime Minister's family.

    

                       

 

HAJJ

Hajj applicants on waiting list under government scheme have been declared successful.

 

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, there were 17,563 Hajj applicants on waiting list, and they will formally be intimated today by written mail and SMS.

Country Director of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Indrika Ratwate called on National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua in Islamabad today.

 

They discussed matters pertaining to repatriation of Afghan refugees.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Nasser Khan Janjua said Pakistan has always stood with Afghanistan. 

 

                    

 

TRAIINS

Pakistan Railways has announced a Special Eid Package for passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

 

The package was approved at a meeting held in Lahore today with Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique in the chair.

 

Under the package, five special trains will be run from 23rd to 28th of this month while fares will also be reduced by 33 percent for two days.

Pakistan has informed the United Nations that India continues to interfere in its internal affairs by carrying out subversive activities in Balochistan.

 

This was stated by Pakistan`s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Farrukh Amil at the 35th session of UN Human Rights Council in Geneva today.

 

He said dossiers in this regard have been handed over to the UN Secretary General.

 

The Ambassador called upon the United Nations to force India to immediately put an end to bloodshed in Occupied Kashmir.

 

                 

 

KASHMIR

In occupied Kashmir, people staged forceful  demonstrations today against brutalities and atrocities committed by Indian troops in the held territory.

               

Call for the demonstrations was given by the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik to protest against the killing of a 12th class student Aadil Farooq Magray by Indian troops in Shopian. 

 

                       

 

UK ELECTION

In United Kingdom, Conservative Party has emerged as the single largest party in general election, though it could not win overall majority.

 

According to eletion results so far, Conservative party secured 318 seats, Labor party 261, the Scottish National Party 35, while Liberal Decorate won 12 seats.

 

            

 

RUSSIA-IRAN

Russia and Iran have underlined the need to resolve the Qatar and Syrian disputes through meaningful dialogue.

 

The demand was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif, who met in Astana today on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
