Construction work on Sukkur-Multan section of Karachi-Lahore motorway in full swing

Sukkur-Multan section to be completed by the end of next year. 1152 kilometers M-9 motorway project from Karachi to Lahore will connect Karachi and Gwadar ports with China, Afghanistan and Central Asian states. With the completion of this project quality of life of the people in the area will be improved and trade through this route will be increased. Meanwhile, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique says Karachi-Peshawar Railway Line will be upgraded under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

US, China reiterate commitment to resolve N.Korean nuclear issue through dialogue

The resolve was expressed during a meeting between US President Donald Trump with his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the German city of Hamburg. The two leaders discussed bilateral counter-terrorism cooperation, regional security situation and other global hot-spot issues. The two sides agreed to hold first round of a comprehensive economic dialogue on 19th of this month. Talks on law enforcement, cyber-security and social and cultural exchanges will also be held at an early date.

Putin says Trump was 'satisfied' with his election meddling denials

President Vladimir Putin says he thinks his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump has been satisfied with his assertions that Russia had not meddled in the U.S. presidential election. Speaking at the end of a G20 summit in Germany, Putin says he believes he has been able to establish a personal relationship with Trump, and that the initial groundwork has been laid for an improvement in U.S.-Russian ties. Their meeting, on the sidelines of the Hamburg summit, was subject to intense scrutiny, following allegations that Moscow had tried to help Trump win the White House, and a Washington investigation into the Russia ties of Trump associates.

UN calls for enhancing information sharing, political will to overcome terrorism

The United Nations has called for enhancing information sharing and political will to address the challenge of terrorism. This was stated by UN International Civil Aviation Organization Secretary General Fang Liu while addressing the special meeting of the Counter-Terrorism Committee on terrorist threats to civil aviation in New York. The meeting discussed enhanced security measures, cyber-crimes, landside attacks, and porous airport perimeters around the world.

U.S.-Russian ceasefire takes effect in southwest Syria

A U.S.-Russian brokered ceasefire deal for southwestern Syria took effect at noon (0900 GMT) on Sunday, the latest international attempt at peacemaking in the six-year war. The United States, Russia and Jordan reached a ceasefire and "de-escalation agreement" this week with the aim of paving the way for a broader, more robust truce. The announcement came after a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit of major economies in Germany. Several ceasefires have crumbled since the onset of the conflict and it was not clear how much the combatants - Syrian government forces and the main rebels in the southwest - were committed to this latest effort.
