National Disaster Awareness Day observed
President and prime minister assure victims of 2005 earthquake of all possible steps to alleviate their sufferings.
The National Disaster Awareness Day was observed on Wednesday.
The objectives of the observance is to raise awareness among general public and to sensitise all relevant stakeholders for taking preemptive measures for disaster risk reduction.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in their messages on the occasion assured the affected people of the October 8, 2005 earthquake that the government would take all possible steps to alleviate their sufferings.
President Mamnoon Hussain in his message on the occasion said that the day is an occasion to express solidarity with all those families who suffered October 8 calamity and many of them still bear the scars of that horrific tragedy on their minds and bodies.
The Prime Minister said that the mega disaster of October 8 has reminded us of emergent challenge of the country's disaster vulnerability, frequency and intensity that has increased due to climate change.
He said there is a need to further ensure better preparedness and take preventive measures to mitigate the negative impact of disasters.
