US President Donald Trump has offered to personally broker a resolution to the Persian Gulf's escalating diplomatic crisis between Qatar and other Arab countries.

In a phone call with Qatar's ruling emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Trump said he wanted to help Qatar and its Arab neighbors to resolve the row.

The White House said the President focused on the need for the region's various U.S. allies to stick together.

Meanwhile Qatar's U.S. ambassador, Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani, told media that his country needs Washington's help to persuade Saudi Arabia and others to back down.
