Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit being held in Kazakhstan today will grant full membership to Pakistan.


The Senate has been informed that a mechanism is being evolved to check activities of proscribed outfits on social media.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has left for Astana, Kazakhastan to participate in the two-day Meeting of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, beginning today.


Pakistan is all set to become full member of the SCO at the Summit.


The decision to give membership to Pakistan was taken at UFAH Summit in Russia in 2015. 


On the sidelines of the SCO Summit, the Prime Minister will hold a number of bilateral meetings with other participating leaders.


The Prime Minister is accompanied  by Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir and Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal Khan.


Besides the SCO Summit, Kazakhstan is also hosting the International Expo 2017, in which more than 100 countries including Pakistan are participating. The Prime Minister will also attend the inaugural ceremony of the Expo.



The Senate was informed today that the Ministry of Interior has taken notice of the activities of banned outfits on the social media.   


Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Karim Ahmad Khawaja and others, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab told the House FIA has been tasked to carry out investigation into the matter.


He regretted that certain elements are trying to sow seed of hatred through social media. 


He said security agencies and NACTA are coordinating to to develop a mechanism to check the activities of the proscribed outfits.

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has appreciated Southern Command, Intelligence Agencies and troops for conducting successful operation against terrorists in Mastung District of Balochistan.


It may be recalled that security forces killed twelve hardcore terrorists including two suicide bombers during three-day operation early this month.


The operation foiled attempts of establishing any direct or indirect Daish organized infrastructure in Balochistan.


Five security forces personnel including two officers also got injured in the operation.


The forces destroyed IED making facility inside cave and recovered large cache of arms and ammunition.

 In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops, in their fresh act of state terrorism, martyred two more youth in a military operation in Nowgam area of Kupwara district, today. 


An Indian Army official said that an Indian soldier was also killed during the operation.




Meanwhile a complete shutdown is being observed on the second consecutive day, today, in Shopian to mourn the killing of a student, Aadil Farooq Magray.


All shops and business centers are closed in the town and its adjacent areas.



Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called for regional and international cooperation to fight against terrorism and extremism.


In a statement after the terrorist attacks in Tehran, he said unity against extremism, violence and terrorism on regional and global level is the need of today's world.
