"SCO summit to deliberate on regional economic development and security": Analysts
17th SCO summit- Pakistan is all set to become full member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization
During the two-day summit, Pakistan will be given full membership of the SCO. Pakistan had applied for the body’s membership in 2010. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Astana, Kazakhastan to participate in the two-day Meeting of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Talking to newsmen on board the flight, the Prime Minister said peace in Afghanistan is imperative for peace in the region. Peaceful Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan. Pakistan will not allow using its soil against any other country for subversive activities.

The foreign policy of Pakistan is on right track as we have managed to improve our bilateral relations with China and Russia. In past, the government just focused its relation with Central Asian and Western countries. China and Russia are among the economic powers in the world and Pakistan can take advantage of such relations for its national interests. The members of the SCO should take deep interest in reducing or eliminating the Indo-Pak tension.

The SCO summit is going to be held from 8-9 June in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan and it is a historic event. A new grouping is emerging in the world. China is also emerging as an economic power in the world. Pakistan is a main stakeholder in China Pakistan Economic Corridor project and inclusion of Pakistan in SCO will have a positive impact. Both India and Pakistan should have to improve the bilateral relations as it is in the interest of regional peace and prosperity.

The inclusion of Pakistan and India in Shanghai Cooperation Organization holds importance. The main objective of the SCO is regional security and economic development. It is an opportunity for Pakistan to take maximum advantage. Russia and China being the major members of this forum must play role to reduce the increasing tensions between Pakistan and India. Pakistan has always supported peace in the region and is fighting a successful war against terrorism.
