No ban on new solar, wind power projects: Asif
Addressing the AEDB, Minister for Water and Power lauds efforts of the board to bring 255.4 MW wind power projects in operation.
Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has dispelled the impression of total ban on new solar and wind power projects.
He was presiding a meeting of Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) in Islamabad on Thursday.
The Minister appreciated efforts of the board to bring 255.4 MW wind power projects in operation and achieve financial closing of nine wind projects having cumulative capacity of 477 MW. These wind power projects will be operational by September 2016 with an investment of over one billion dollars.
The meeting decided to allow new solar and wind power projects by taking full advantage of new technology and price decrease in comparison to the last tariffs awarded to solar and wind projects.
The meeting also decided to launch a campaign for creating awareness among the general public on efficient use of solar systems.
The meeting was apprised that by end of 2016, the total supply of power to the national grid from wind power projects would be 937 MW.
