PM Nawaz Shareef representing Pakistan in the 17th SCO Summit at Astana, Kazakhstan- Pakistan will become a full member of the SCO
During the two-day summit, Pakistan will be given full membership of the SCO. Pakistan had applied for the body’s membership in 2010. The decision, in principle, to give membership to Pakistan was taken during SCO Heads of the States 2015 meeting held in Ufa, Russia.

Pakistan will become a full member of the SCO at Astana. Pakistan has been an Observer with SCO since 2005. Pakistan applied for full membership of the organization in 2010. The decision, in principle, to give membership to Pakistan was taken by the SCO Heads of States meeting held in Ufa, Russia, in 2015. Pakistan fully subscribes to the charter of SCO and the ‘Shanghai Spirit’ and shares deep-rooted historical and cultural links with the organization and its member states.

This is the 17th meeting of SCO summit. Prime Minister will hold meetings with Heads of states of different countries. The main focus will be on regional security in SCO conference. Pakistan has an important geographical location regarding CPEC route as it will provide an easy access to Central Asian countries for trade. This organization will improve bilateral relations among different countries.
