The forum says no other country in the world has done as much for global safety and security as Pakistan at a huge cost of both men and material. Pakistan acts as a frontline state in global counterterrorism efforts with unparalleled sacrifices and successes. The sacrifices of security forces, law enforcement agencies and the national resolve in fighting the scourge of terrorism are acknowledged and appreciated. Pakistan will continue to work for peace and progress in Afghanistan through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, the Services Chiefs and other high officials attended the meeting.

Prime Minister chaired a high-level meeting of National Security Committee and such meetings should be held at regular intervals to ensure the security of the country and to deal with the external threats as well. PM during his visit to Tajikistan has also taken a wise decision by opposing the Afghanistan’s option to involve India in CASA-1000 project. Pakistan is effectively highlighting the Indian brutalities and violation of human rights in Indian Occupied Kashmir at all international forums.

Dr. Rasheed Ahmed Khan (IR Expert):

Today’s National Security Committee meeting was a timely one as Pakistan is facing a number of internal; and external challenges. Afghanistan is continuously blaming Pakistan to be involved in terrorist incident in its country as the Afghan government has been failed in its policies to restore peace in Afghanistan. On the other hand Indian forces are involved in unprovoked firing at LoC and the Working Boundary. India is frustrated as Kashmir is getting out of Indian control. The good relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan are in best interests of both these countries. Pakistan has a clear stance that good Pak-India relations are linked with solution of Kashmir dispute.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurates first unit of Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant with a capacity of 760 megawatts in Jhang on Friday. The project is a Combined Cycle Power Plant with a total production capacity of 1230 MW, fueled by Liquefied Natural Gas. World's most efficient and state of the art technology has been used in the project which guarantees efficiency of the plant at 62.44 percent on LNG. The project is environment friendly with minimum impact and is another step towards the government's commitment of providing balanced sources of energy for the country.

The main achievements of the incumbent government are the initiation of Bhikki RLNG-based Power Project, Balloki Power Plan and Haveli Bahadur Shah Power plant. Prime Minister has inaugurated the 760-megawatt first unit of Haveli Bahadur Shah and second unit will also be completed soon as a result of which 1230MW electricity will be added in National Grid system. Bikki Power plant has already started producing electricity and Balloki power plant will be inaugurated in next week or so. All these three power plant are being operated through LNG and will produce cheaper electricity. It is also good news that the work on Dasu dam will be started in future as this project will add 4000MW electricity in national system. The government is determined and we are also hopeful that load-shedding will be eliminated from the country till 2018. The government should also prioritize other resources as well for the production of cheap electricity including thermal, air and hydel.
