US midterms make history: 2 Muslim women elected to Congress
November 07, 2018

In U.S. mid-term election, Americans, for the first time in country's history, have elected two Muslim women to Congress.

Ilhan Omar and Rashida Harbi Tlaib were elected as members of House of Representatives although Muslim men have been elected to Congress in the past. Both the women have been elected on Democratic Party tickets.

Ilhan Omar, who hails from Somalia, was elected from Minnesota, while Rashida is a Palestinian-American and elected unopposed from Michigan.
