Minorities have no place to live in India: Analysts
June 07, 2020

Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik (Defense Analyst):

6th June was the biggest landmark in the history for the Sikh community. In India, the attacks on Babri mosque and Golden Temple were almost similar. The attack on Golden temple was carried out by the Indian government. The mindset of India was and is that minorities have no place to live in India. It is also a fact that Hindutva mindset is promoting in India and Hindus are nowhere else other than Hindustan. Indian government seems to be living in fool's paradise because after its strategic alliance with United States the Indian government dreams to get regional and then global hegemony. China and India got independence with a gap of one year. But China is among the developed countries and majority of Indian population is spending life below the poverty line.

Sarbjeet Singh (Sikh Leader):

Thirty years ago on 6th June 1984, Indian army tanks pounded the Sikh shrine on the orders of the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Sikh community across the world strongly condemned the brutal attack of Indian government on Golden temple where several Sikhs were brutally killed. We strongly believe that our upcoming generations will get the reward in shape of an independent Sikh State Khalistan. What India did with Sikh community is doing the same with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. The day will come when Khalistan ad Kashmir will get freedom from illegal Indian occupation.

Qamar Abbas (IR Expert):

India by constitution is a secular state but the policies of Indian government are always Hindu-dominant policies. The then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi ordered to attack Golden Temple and Indian forces used tanks, helicopters and even cluster bombs in the operation. Hundreds of Sikhs were brutally killed in the operation. This operation promoted the mindset that only Hindus can rule in India. It is unfortunate that Indian government is also involved in politics on Kartarpur corridor whereas Sikhs across the world appreciated the initiative of Pakistan. Indian state institutions including Indian supreme court in also under the influence of extremist Indian organization RSS. Sikh community never got respect and identity as Indian citizens.

Gopal Singh Chawla (Leader, Punjabi Sikh Sangat):

Operation Blue Star on 6th June, 1984 will remain an unforgettable and Black Day in the history of Sikhism. It was a shame act that Indian government carried out an operation against its own citizens and committed mass genocide of Sikhs in Golden Temple. The hatred is increasing among Sikhs for Indian government and will continue till we get our independent state. It is untoward that even after 36 years of this tragic incident, no FIR has been launched and no justice has been provided to the affectees. International organizations must have to take notice of Indian attitude towards minorities.

Randhawa (Sikh Leader):

6thJune is marked as the darkest day for Sikh community. Sikh across the world will never forget the tragic incident. By nature, Sikhs are peaceful and want the solution to any problem through negotiations as we strongly believe that war is not the solution to any problem. Sikh community in different countries has also expressed solidarity with Kashmiris and held protests against illegal Indian move in IOJ&K.

Munir Akram (Permanent Representative of Pakistan at the United Nations):

It is loud and clear that Golden Temple incident was among the worst example of human rights violations. The Indian attitude remains consistent as it always emphasized on use of force against its own people. So far, India has fought almost 17 wars and in its 300 districts the insurgency is occurring. Moreover, India also has territorial disputes with all its neighboring countries. Pakistan will continue its moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmir cause at all international forums. Kashmiris, despite of presence of huge Indian army and use of brutal force, are still determined to get freedom from illegal Indian occupation.
