He said peace has been established in the country and there is no organized office of any terrorist organization in the country. DG ISPR said that our neighboring country Afghanistan is under the war for the last four decades. He said about fifty percent area of Afghanistan is not under the control of the government. He said the deployment of security forces along the borders of Afghanistan and Iran is not against these countries or their people but to counter common threats against Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.
Analysts on telephone:
Dr. Hassan Askari Rizvi (Analyst): “Pakistan Army and paramilitary forces have broken the back of terrorists by launching effective operations against them in South and North Waziristan agencies. The areas have been cleared of these elements which is a remarkable success. Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during his recent visit to Afghanistan assured the Afghan leadership that Pakistan has played its part in defeating the terrorists and now it is Afghan government which should take comprehensive action against terrorist elements operating on Afghan soil. Pakistan is effectively monitoring the border with Afghanistan. Pakistan is also fencing the border in order to check the movement of anti-state elements which will go a long way in ensuring peace on border areas.”
Pakistan and the US have shared values to achieve durable peace in the region – Islamabad seeks recognition of its legitimate security concerns in the region
Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif says Pakistan and United States need to actively work to achieve common objective of durable peace in the region. He stated this while addressing at the US Institute of Peace in Washington Thursday. Khawaja Asif said the menace of global terrorism has claimed hundreds of thousands of human lives. Our relationships are underpinned by certain shared values. The foreign minister said achieving peace and security in Afghanistan is critical for lasting peace in the region. Talking to media in Washington, Foreign Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif reiterated Pakistan's stance to play its positive role in bringing peace to the region through measures agreed upon by all relevant stakeholders. Talking to media in Washington, he said Pakistan seeks recognition of its legitimate security concerns in the region.
Analysts on telephone:
Abdullah Gul (Analyst): “The bilateral relations between Pakistan and US span over seven decades despite many ups and downs. US used Pakistan to defeat Soviet Union in Afghanistan. However, it totally ignored the region after getting its aim. Pakistan has rendered numerous sacrifices in war against terrorism to rid the country and region of this menace. But the US never took into account the cost that Pakistan has to pay for this war. The US has also closed its eyes on human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and the killing of civilians by Indian firing on Line of Control. India has signed over 68 defense agreements with India which will disturb the balance of power in the region. The announcement by US President Donald Trump to give a bigger role in Afghanistan is against our interests as India has been using Afghan soil to destabilize Pakistan.”
