Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to broaden the tax base in real terms. The FBR has launched an intensive drive to increase the total number of return filers this year. Last year, 1.2 million people filed their tax returns. An official source said that the revenue growth recorded in the first quarter was mainly led by massive growth in revenue collection from the petroleum sector. The chief commissioners of Lahore and Islamabad LTUs were asked to work hard for achieving their targets in the second quarter, the official said.

Govt is taking steps to improve economy: Commerce Minister

Minister for Commerce Muhammad Pervaiz Malik has said that problems of the industrialists and exporters will be resolved on priority basis. In a meeting at Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Karachi, he said concrete steps taken by the government improved the economy and put Pakistan on the path of progress and development. The president of FPCCI Zubair Khaliq in his remarks said reduction in electricity and gas tariff to the industrial sector will help enhance country's exports substantially.

Pakistan railways introducing TCA system to overcome train accidents: Saad Rafique

Railways Minister says TAWS at all level crossings across country and TCAS in locomotives being installed on experimental basis. Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that Pakistan Railways is introducing a system to overcome train accidents. Addressing a meeting in Lahore, he said Train Approaching Warning System at all level crossings across the country and Train Collision Avoiding System in locomotives are being installed on experimental basis. Earlier, it was informed at a briefing that 5-model systems would be installed by the first week of December.

Air China announces increase in flights for Pakistan

China's flag carrier airline Air China has announced to increase its flights for Pakistan on the Beijing-Islamabad-Karachi route. Airline has decided to operate seven flight in a week from twenty-ninth of this month. Ministerial Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy Zhao Lijian in Islamabad said that the development of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has provided a good opportunity for Air China to extend its business in Pakistan.

Lahore-Multan motorway to become operational early next year

Minister for Communication Hafiz Abdul Karim has said that Lahore-Multan Motorway will become operational by the end of April next year. Speaking during inspection of work on the project, he expressed his satisfaction and said that thirteen motorway projects are under construction. The Minister said that Sukkur, Multan, Havelian and Thahkot motorways are also being constructed under CPEC projects.

SBP establishes consumer helpline

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has established a dedicated helpline – UAN 111-727-273 – to facilitate banking consumers in resolving their complaint against banks, microfinance banks and development finance institutions. SBP Governor Tariq Bajwa, while inaugurating the helpline on Thursday, advised the officers concerned to make the general public aware of the helpline and ensure that banking consumers were properly facilitated. After the establishment of the dedicated helpline, all calls relating to consumer grievances against banks will be entertained at this number only, which will remain available during working hours of the SBP. Banks have been advised to display the helpline number in their branches for the convenience of consumers.
