Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment for early implementation of CASA-1000 project.


He was addressing the Quadrilateral Session of CASA-1000 conference in Dushanbe today, which was also attended by President of the host country, President of Afghanistan, and Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan.


The Prime Minister said Pakistan needs energy for its socio-economic development and run its industrial sector to its full potential.


He expressed satisfaction that some of the world's leading manufacturers have expressed their keen interest to provide Converter Stations for CASA-1000.  He pointed out that tenders for transmission lines from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan and from Tajikistan to Afghanistan have been floated and are currently being evaluated.


The Prime Minister hoped that work on the project would begin very soon.



Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani held an informal meeting in Dushanbe today.


Both leaders will hold one on one meeting later today.


A trilateral meeting of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan will also be held to discuss regional security and other issues of mutual understanding.



Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said that a strong air force and aerospace platform is imperative for a strong Pakistan.


He was addressing a ceremony in connection with the establishment of aviation city at Aeronautical complex Kamra today.


The Minister said Pakistan Air Force has played a critical role in the war against terrorism.


Ahsan Iqbal noted that air force is an important element of any nation's power which has assumed new importance for natoinal security.


He said the establishment of aviation city has come at a very appropriate time and fulfills the very need where knowledge and industry can work together to create new opportunities for Pakistan in the field of aerospace.


The Minister expressed the confidence that the aviation city will not only help us in developing capabilities in defense and security but also prove to be a berth of commercial aviation activities.


Speaking on the occasion, Air Chief Sohail Aman described the establishment of the aviation city as an important step towards achieving self reliance in defense production. He said it is also an important lead towards production of fifth generation fighter jets in the country.



Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif says PML-N government has succeeded to steer the country out of quagmire and put it on path of development.


In a statement in Lahore he said  when the PML-N assumed power, the country was facing a lot of problems including feeble economy.


He said national economy has been stabilized due to prudent economic policies pursued by the government during the last four years.



At the United Nations, Pakistan has underscored the need for equal development in all parts of the world to achieve Sustainable Development Goals set by the world body.


Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr Maleeha Lodhi said this while participating in a debate at the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New York.


She said agenda of development should be broader and integrated.



Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that open trade relations based on uniform standards can stimulate growth of the global economy and support progressive development of intergovernmental relations.


In his article published in a German daily today, ahead of G20 summit, Putin wrote that Russia favors an open and rules-based trade order to boost global growth.


He strongly opposed the unilaterally imposed and politically motivated sanctions on investment, trade and technology transfer.



Pakistani boxer Mohammad Waseem has won International Challenge Fight in Panama city.


In an eight-round ranking fight, Muhammad Wasim defeated Eliecer Valdez of Panama.


With this victory, Muhammad Wasim has jumped to number one in the World Boxing Council's Silver Flyweight rankings as this is his fourth consecutive victory.
