Nawaz Sharif describes CASA-1000 as flagship project in the region connecting Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia to Afghanistan and Pakistan in South Asia through an electricity grid. He expresses satisfaction that some of the world's leading manufacturers have expressed their keen interest to provide Converter Stations for CASA-1000. A trilateral meeting of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan will also be held to discuss regional security and other issues of mutual understanding.
Pakistan rules out an organized presence of any terror outfit in the country
At his weekly news briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakariya says Afghanistan's allegations about presence of Haqqani network in tribal areas are mere rhetoric aimed at putting the blame of its own failures on Pakistan. The killing of a number of commanders of Haqqani network in Afghanistan clearly indicates that the group is based in that country and operating from there. During the visit of the US delegation headed by Senator Mccain, matters pertaining to Afghanistan came under discussion. Pakistan is ready to assist in all efforts aimed at bringing peace to the neighboring country. India on the other hand is part of problem in Afghanistan.
US threatens to use force against North Korea to stop its nuclear missile program
In a hard-hitting address, US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley says Tuesday's ICBM test had made "the world a more dangerous place. North Korea's actions are quickly closing off the possibility of a diplomatic solution and the United States was prepared to defend itself and its allies. She also warns that Washington is prepared to cut off trade with countries trading with North Korea in violation of UN resolutions. Meanwhile, China tells the UN Security Council that military action was not an option for addressing the crisis over North Korea.
Trump administration renews an offer to cooperate with Russia in the Syrian conflict
In a statement, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says the U.S. is open to establishing no-fly zones in Syria in coordination with Russia as well as jointly setting up a truce monitoring and humanitarian aid delivery mechanism. Trump is prepared to meet with Putin on Friday in Germany. U.S. seeks to consolidate gains made against the Islamic State group in recent weeks and amid preparations for a post-IS future. U.S. and Russia have a variety of unresolved differences but Syria is an opportunity for the two countries to create stability.

President Donald Trump will call on Poland and all of America's European allies to stand united against extremism and other "shared enemies" that pose a threat to freedom and sovereignty. Trump opens his second visit to Europe at a Polish castle, welcomed by President Andrzej Duda and a vigorous handshake. The leaders will also discuss further deliveries of U.S. liquid gas to Poland and the region. Before heading to a public square in downtown Warsaw to address the Polish people, Trump planned to highlight a regional effort to boost energy independence by meeting with a dozen central and eastern European leaders collectively known as the Three Seas Initiative.
Ahead of G20 summit, Putin calls sanctions 'covert form' of protectionism
Russia is in favor of an open and rules-based trade order to boost global growth, and sanctions imposed against Moscow are a "covert form" of protectionism. Putin writes in a guest article published in German business daily Handelsblatt. "I'm convinced that only open trade relations based on uniform norms and standards can stimulate growth of the global economy and support a progressive development of intergovernmental relations. And unilaterally imposed and politically motivated sanctions on investment, trade and, in particular, technology transfer become its covert form. In our opinion, such sanctions not only have no perspective, but they also contradict the G20 principles for interacting in the interests of all countries of the world": Putin
