Pakistan needs energy for its socio-economic development and run its industrial sector to its full potential. The project is an important step toward realization of the planned Central Asia South Asia Regional Electricity Market. It will be a good example of promoting cooperation between energy-deficient South Asia and energy-rich Central Asia.

Finance Minister says a transparent probe will be carried out into recent dollar appreciation

Talking to media persons in Islamabad, Ishaq Dar expresses surprise over the depreciation of the local currency. The forex market is stable and there is no reason in appreciation of dollar. Foreign exchange reserves currently stand at twenty one billion dollars. Of these sixteen billion dollars are with the central bank and the remaining five billion dollars are with the banks. Earlier, the Finance Minister held a meeting with the presidents of different banks and discussed matters that led to the devaluation of rupee.

SBP pledges to ensure stability in financial markets at all cost

The State Bank of Pakistan says it will continue to closely monitor developments in the foreign exchange markets and ensure stability in the financial markets. In a statement, the Bank says the current exchange rate is broadly aligned with the economic fundamentals. Pakistani rupee-US dollar exchange rate in the inter-bank market has depreciated by 3.1 percent from 104.90 to 108.25 per US dollar.

CM Punjab, ADB delegation discuss progress on various projects

A delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by its Vice President Wencai Zhang called on Punjab Chief Minister in Lahore yesterday. During the meeting, they discussed progress on various projects, being completed with cooperation of Asian Development Bank in province. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors including energy, skill development, urban transport, infrastructure, small hydel dams, irrigation, agriculture and education. The vice president of Asian development bank said that the bank is willing to further strengthen its cooperation in various sectors.
