Zafarul Haq appreciates oppositionâ€™s role in current political situation
Syed Khursheed Shah says credit goes to the parliament for standing as a rock wall to protect the constitution.
In his remarks, Leader of the house in the Senate Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq appreciated the role played by the opposition in the current political turmoil.
He said the opposition's role helped make parliament a single entity in a real sense for the first time in the history of the country. He said we value the sentiments expressed by the opposition members during the joint sitting of the parliament.
About the statement of a minister against Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan, he said the Prime Minister sent a message of apology to the entire opposition including leader of opposition Khursheed Shah as soon as the incident came to his notice.
Earlier, rising on a point of order, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah said that credit goes to the parliament for standing as a rock wall for the protection of constitution and democracy. He said it is the first time in the country's history that the government and opposition stand together to foil all conspiracies against the system. He said the entire nation is also proud of maturity shown by the elected representatives in the current situation. In the past the politicians did commit blunders but today they stand together for a cause. He regretted the statement of a minister against leader of the opposition in the Senate Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan saying he should not have resorted to such attitude in the current difficult situation.
Responding to the remarks of Nawaz Sharif, Aitzaz Ahsan said he has no complaints after the unequivocal apology offered by the Prime Minister. He said baseless allegations were hurled against him but he will continue to play his role in the parliament for the sake of democracy.
The house has been adjourned to meet again on Monday at 5 p.m.
