The United States has called for Pakistani political parties to resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue.

At the daily briefing in Washington, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said the United States has been carefully monitoring the demonstrations in Islamabad.

Explaining the US position, she said her country opposes any efforts to impose extra-constitutional change to the democratic system.

Responding to another question, the spokesperson expressed US endorsement of May 2013 election in Pakistan and once again said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is the elected leader of the country.
