Khaqan invites Chinese oil, gas firms to explore investment opportunities

Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has invited Chinese oil and gas companies to explore multiple investment opportunities, in Pakistan. Talking to a Chinese delegation led by Administrator, National Energy Administration Nur Bekri in Islamabad, he says Chinese companies can invest in oil and gas exploration and production, setting up a large deep conversion mid-country oil refinery, laying gas and oil pipelines, oil storages facilities, and supply of petroleum products. Both sides also agreed to establish Oil and Gas Sub-Group under the Energy Working Group to facilitate the identified and future oil and gas sector projects.

2nd round of Pak-Iran FTA talks start from 10th July

The second round of negotiations between Pakistan and Iran on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will be held from July, 10 to discuss ways and means for enhancing bilateral trade. Reviewing mutual trade list and FTAs text will be on the agenda of the talks for finalizing the agreement. Pakistan is looking forward for talks to enhance bilateral trade and export to Iran. Pakistan was desirous to have duty relaxation on 50 products before its launch.

Cotton sowing witnesses 12 pc increase in current season

Cotton, which is the major cash crop of the season and a biggest source of raw material for the textile value addition sector of the country, has witnessed 12 percent increase during the current sowing season as compared the sowing of same period of last year. According to Cotton Commissioner in the Ministry of Textile Industry, crop cultivation has been completed over 88.2 percent area against the targets set for current sowing season. He attributed the increasing cotton cultivation to series of steps taken by the federal and provincial governments including provision of subsidy on fertilizers, pesticides and electricity.
