US Defence Secretary nominee favours continued support for Pakistan
Ashton Carter says US and Pakistan should continue to work to promote peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan and improve regional security
US Defence Secretary Nominee Ashton Carter has favoured continued US support for Pakistan.
Appearing for his nomination hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee in Washington, he said expansion in cooperation with Pakistan against terrorism is in the US interest.
He said we also share Pakistan's strategic interest in improved relations with Afghanistan.
He said the United States and Pakistan should continue to work to promote peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan and improve regional security.
If confirmed, Carter said he will encourage communication between Pakistan and India, as these relations will continue to be vital for stability in the region.
