China says India violates 1890 agreement in border stand-off
China has alleged India of violating an 1890 border agreement between Britain and China.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing in Beijing today that the Sikkim part of the border had been settled in the 1890 agreement, and previous Indian governments had many times affirmed that in writing.
He said pacts must be respected as it is a basic principle of international law.
Chinese spokesman reiterated a demand for India to withdraw its troops from the Chinese side.
