LG elections to further strengthen democracy: Rashid
Information Minister says first phase of LB polls in Punjab and Sindh completed successfully.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid says the first phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh has been successfully completed to further strengthen democracy in the country.
Talking to newsmen in Lahore on Sunday, he hoped the next two phases will also take place as per the schedule.
Pervaiz Rashid said the elected representatives of local governments will provide solution to the problems of people at their doorstep immediately.
He said the electoral process is improving with every election taking place in the country. The society is also being democratized gradually.
The Minister said the Punjab government deserves appreciation for maintaing peace during the elections. Conversely the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were marred by violence and irregularities.
Earlier, addressing a seminar on "Role of Media for promotion of Urdu language," Pervaiz Rashid expressed the government's resolve to implement Urdu bas official language.
He said the current independent judiciary, which is giving the landmark verdicts like promotion of Urdu as an official language, was born after the sacrifices rendered by various segments of the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique says PML-N had sacrificed in the politics for the sake of people and it had deep roots among the masses.
He said the PML-N had to face various trials in its political history. However, but it never compromised on principles and on the interest of country.
He said voters are very mature today. Therefore, no candidate could succeed in elections without the will of people.
