PRESIDENT

President Mamnoon Hussain says trade and investment friendly policies, CPEC and power projects are manifestation and components of the plan to exploit precious resources for welfare of the people.

 

He was addressing the joint session of the Parliament in Islamabad today to mark beginning of the new parliamentary year.  

 

The President proposed that the Government, the opposition and all the political parties should declare Vision-2025 as a national plan through consensus so that process of welfare of public is not hampered at any cost.

 

He said there is also need to check the rising rate of population growth to ensure the optimal use of resources.

 

The President said as a result of prudent economic policies of the Government, economic indicators are healthy and this is also acknowledged by the State Bank and international economic institutions. 

 

He said there is also need to undertake serious efforts for poverty alleviation and improving the administration of health facilities.

 

Mamnoon Hussain said steps are being taken to bring Balochistan and FATA in the national mainstream. 

 

Earlier, at the arrival of the President in the House, National Anthem was played. 

 

The Joint Session has now been prorogued.

        

WALKOUT

Members belonging to Opposition parties raised anti-government slogans during the address of the President and later staged a walkout from the House.

 

CALL ON

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called on President Mamnoon Hussain and discussed with him matters relating to country`s internal and external security situation.

 

The Prime Minister briefed the President on the meeting of Cabinet`s National Security Committee.

 

The Prime Minister also apprised the President about One Belt One Road Summit in China last month.

 

They expressed satisfaction over the pace of ongoing projects under the  CPEC.

 

ISPR

Three civilian were injured in unprovoked firing by Indian troops in Battal, Jandrot and Hotspring sectors along the Line of Control this morning.

 

According to ISPR, in response, Pakistani troops effectively targeted Indian positions.

 

EXTORTIONIST

The Counter Terrorism Department arrested a member of an extortionist group in Peshawar today.

 

The mobile phone and sim used in extortion have been recovered from him.

 

Two of his accomplices were arrested a few days ago.

 

KASHMIR

In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops, in their fresh act of state terrorism, martyred two more Kashmiri youth in Nathipora area of Sopore, today.

 

The occupant Indian troops martyred twenty eight Kashmiris last month.

 

According to the data issued by  Kashmir Media Service, nine hundred forty five people were injured and three hundred sixty seven  persons including Hurriyet activists and students were arrested during this period.

 

GILLANI

Meanwhile, Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani has said that no talks are possible with India unless it accepts Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory.

 

In a statement issued in Srinagar, Syed Ali Gilani said that we will never beg for talks nor will surrender but will continue our struggle for the right to self determination.

 

He strongly denounced the continued house arrest and detention of resistance leaders and  expressed concern over suspension of class work in educational institutions in held territory.

US-VIETNAM

The United States has signed business deals worth  eight billion dollars with Vietnam.

 

The U.S. Commerce Department announced that thirteen new transactions were signed in different sectors during visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc  to Washington.

 In Philippine, ten troops were killed by friendly fire in  military airstrikes against militants in Marawi city today. 

 

TROPHY

The ICC Champions Trophy begins in England today with first encounter between host England and Bangladesh, at Oval.

 

Pakistan will play their first match against arch-rivals India at Birmingham on Sunday.
