Prime Minister improving after a cardiac surgery

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, is now improving and expected to return to Pakistan within three weeks after the doctors allow him to travel. This was stated by Maryam Nawaz while talking to various private television channels. Maryam Nawaz said her father is a bold man and leader and faced many ups and downs in the life with courage. She said those who thought that they could get anything done of their choice by bringing him under pressure are badly mistaken. Maryam Nawaz also thanked people from different walks of life including political workers and leaders for their prayers and well wishes for the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif underwent a cardiac-surgery in London. He was successfully operated upon for the heart ailment. According to the doctors this surgery would make him healthier. The surgery lasted more than four hours. Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed said prayers across the world were held for the premier's well being and health. "Everyone has prayed for him, Muslims prayed in mosques, Hindus in temples and Christians in churches." PM has underwent four by-passes in past. World leaders, also conveyed their wishes for the PM's quick recovery in days leading up to his surgery.

President to address third joint session of parliament today

President Mamnoon Hussain will address the joint session of the parliament at eleven this morning. In his address, the President will throw light on the performance of the government as well as the challenge of extremism and terrorism faced by the country. He will also highlight the achievements made by the security forces in this regard. The President is also likely to highlight the steps taken by the government to improve economy and overcome energy shortages. He will also talk about development agenda particularly the construction of China Pakistan Economic Corridor. He will also reaffirm the country's commitment towards good relations with the neighbouring countries for peace and stability in the region. The President will also give guidelines to the government on important issues facing the nation. President’s address would mark the beginning of the fourth parliamentary year.  The President's address to the joint parliamentary session at the advent of a new parliamentary year is mandatory under the Constitution. President Mamnoon Hussain has addressed such sessions twice, in 2014 and in 2015. This would be his third address as president to a joint sitting of parliament. The joint sitting in 2013 was addressed by the then president Asif Ali Zardari.  

COAS witnesses multinational military exercise EFES 2016- Appreciates Turkish armed forces for an outstanding conduct of exercise 

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif witnessed the multinational military exercises EFES-2016 in Turkey. According to ISPR, he appreciated the Turkish armed forces for an outstanding conduct of the exercise of such magnitude and scope. The comprehensive military drill led by Turkish military brought together 860 military personnel from eight countries. A contingent of Pakistani armed forces participated in the ‘Combined Joint Live Fire Exercise’. Other countries who took part in exercises included the United States, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Qatar, Turkey, Belgium, and Azerbaijan. Exercises were conducted in Turkey’s Western Anatolia region. In total, observers from 79 different countries attended the exercise. The aims of the exercise were to train participating units and staff in planning and conducting combined and joint operations. “In a bid to share military experiences and enhance training exchanges, Pakistan army, in the last three years, has conducted 52 joint military exercises, both inland and abroad, with partner countries.”

COAS Meeting with Turkish President

ISPR says Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an held a separate meeting with Gen Raheel. He thanked him for Pakistan's participation and his personal presence for witnessing the military exercise. “It will enhance the existing close friendly ties between Pakistan and Turkey, especially between the armed forces of the two countries.” Turkish President also praised Pakistan army's accomplishments in Operation Zarb-i-Azb and its contributions towards regional peace and stability.

Government decides to keep prices of petroleum products unchanged in June

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar says it has been decided not to increase prices of the petroleum products during the Holy month of Ramazan in light of Prime Minister's vision. He stated this while talking to newsmen in Islamabad. Government kept petroleum prices unchanged for the second consecutive month. Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had asked to increase prices in the wake of increased price of the crude oil in international market. Previous prices will continue during June and there will be no increase in this regard to facilitate common masses. The government will absorb the full impact of maintaining the prices at the current level. Government would bear expenses of Rs 8.5 billion to keep the prices of petroleum products unchanged in June. OGRA had recommended earlier to the government to increase prices of various categories of petroleum products up to 9.2 percent for the month of June 2016.

Lt. Col among 16 killed in fire at India's largest ammo yard

A major fire in the central ammunition depot at Pulgaon, India killed 16 defence personnel including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major and left  17 injured in the early hours of Tuesday. It is the biggest such storage facility in India. Defence minister Manohar Parrikar said the exact cause of the incident would be established by the court of inquiry.There was a major blaze in May 1989 whereas another such incident took place in 2005. Later incident inflicted a loss of around Rs 22 crore.

Three Pakistani players secure place in top test players ranking

Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Yasir Shah maintain their position in the top 10 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Player Rankings. Rankings were announced by the cricket's global body. In the ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen, Younis Khan secured 5th position with an average of 53.94. Pakistan's Test Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq stands on the 10th spot with 48.89 average. Yasir Shah is ranked at the 4th spot in the Test bowler’s rankings.
