UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says a clear understanding has been reached at talks between Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders to reunite the island.

In a statement, the UN Chief said he had held a positive and results-oriented meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, as well as Greek and Turkish Foreign Ministers in Swiss resort of Crans-Montana.

Cyprus was split in a Turkish invasion in 1974, triggered by a brief Greek-inspired coup.
