Dr. Hassan Abbas Zaheer (Medical Expert): Yesterday, the number of total cases recorded in Pakistan was 646 and the positivity rate 2.2%. If we analyze the situation the number of cases seems static. We have been conducting corona tests of 30,000 to 35,000 people on daily basis. The educational institutions, restaurants and marriage halls are being opened that resulted in increase in number of cases to some extent. Need of the hour is to take all precautionary measures, wear masks and maintain social distancing. In India and Iran, a huge number of COVID-19 cases are being reported daily whereas in Pakistan the number of reported cases is minimal and the situation is quite under control. We may say that that the intensity of the COVID-19 virus is becoming weaker in our country. We cannot predict when the vaccine against COVID-19 will be available in the country. We have initiated the vaccine trials and so far five centers across the country have been established in this regard. I would like to appeal the people to enroll themselves voluntarily in trials. As early as we achieve the target of the enrollment, the preparation of vaccine will also be possible soon. The centers include Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore, Agha Khan and Indus Hospitals in Karachi and Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. The study results of the vaccine are expected till the end of this year.
